Todd Bentley: 'God Said Get People to Believe in the Angel'

Is this teaching biblical?

In this remarkable quote, Bentley reveals the core of his theology: God allegedly told him that getting people to 'believe in the angel' is more important than focusing on Jesus, because 'the church doesn't believe in the supernatural.' This is a stunning inversion of the gospel. The entire New Testament directs faith toward Christ alone. No apostle ever taught people to 'believe in' angels. Paul condemned angel worship as heresy. The supernatural in Scripture always serves to glorify Christ, never to redirect faith toward angelic beings. If a voice tells a preacher to shift people's faith from Jesus to angels, it is not the voice of God.

What did Todd Bentley say?

"I told the Lord, 'Why can't I just move in healing and forget talking about all that other stuff?' He said, 'Because, Todd, you gotta get the people to believe in the angel.' I said, 'God, why do I want people to believe in the angel, isn't it about getting the people to believe in Jesus?' He said, 'The people already believe in Jesus, but the church doesn't believe in the supernatural.'"

What does Scripture actually teach?

Acts 4:12

"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

NKJV

Salvation is in Jesus alone — not in angels, not in the supernatural, not in experiences. The apostles never directed people to 'believe in' any angel. Faith must be in Christ. A voice that redirects faith from Jesus to angelic beings contradicts the entire witness of Scripture.

Colossians 2:18-19

"Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels... not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God."

NKJV

Paul warns that angel worship causes people to lose their hold on 'the Head' — Christ. Bentley's own quote reveals exactly this: the focus shifts from Christ to angelic encounters. Paul says this is being 'cheated of your reward.' Bentley calls it revival.

Hebrews 1:14

"Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?"

NKJV

Angels in Scripture are servants, not objects of faith. They are 'ministering spirits' — they serve God's purposes. They are never presented as beings that people need to 'believe in.' Bentley elevates angels from servants to the focus of faith, which is the definition of angel worship.
