Why does this teaching matter?
Jesus's demand for repentance is absolute and universal. He does not say 'some should repent' or 'repentance would be nice' — He says ALL will perish without it. This stands in stark contrast to modern preaching that offers salvation without repentance, grace without change, and heaven without holiness.
What did Jesus Christ teach?
"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
Speaker: Jesus Christ
Source: Luke 13:3
What does Scripture confirm?
Luke 13:3
"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
— NKJV
Jesus repeats this statement twice (v.3 and v.5) for emphasis. Repentance is not an optional add-on to faith — it is the non-negotiable condition for escaping perishing.
Acts 17:30
"Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent."
— NKJV
Repentance is a divine COMMAND to ALL people EVERYWHERE. It is not a suggestion for the especially sinful — it is the universal requirement for all humanity.
2 Peter 3:9
"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
— NKJV
God's patience has a purpose: giving time for repentance. His desire is not that people feel good about themselves — it is that they repent. Any gospel that removes repentance contradicts God's stated purpose.
